The Minister for Agriculture and Fishing of the Andalucian regional government, Clara Aguilera, visits Innofood by Neuron

The Minister for Agriculture and Fishing of the Andalucian Regional Government, Clara Aguilera, today visited the facilities of Innofood by Neuron to see for herself the advances made by its researchers in the area of agro-food biotechnology. The visit provided her with an opportunity to praise the company’s commitment towards the development of functional ingredients and to underline what she termed as, “the great future expectations for this line of work”.

The minister emphasised the efforts made by the company in its co-operation with J.R. Suárez Monedero in developing the novel, completely Spanish food product, black garlic (Black Allium), which has new and different organoleptic and nutritional properties that differentiate it from fresh garlic. This type of garlic comes originally from Asia and has not been produced with Spanish garlic until now.

Ms. Aguilera stressed the important role played by companies that carry out research in order to expand the offer of the agro-food industry via the development of new attractive products, and within this context she referred specifically to “the high added value that functional properties contribute to food” and its conversion into “an increase in the profitability of processes once their by-products are used to advantage”.
