Exclusive zebrafish model for studying epilepsy and searching for new antiepileptic drugs
Neuron BioServices offers efficacy studies of new compounds in a unique zebrafish epilepsy model as an alternative to rodents. The effect of the new drugs is studied via the measurement of the behavioral seizure-stage score in adult zebrafish after the administration of a proconvulsivant drug such as kainate.
The assay gathers together several endpoints such as mortality, time lag to the first convulsion, seizure score, status epilepticus and the percentage of animals with seizures.
The zebrafish is a highly potential model organism for research into epilepsy, excitotoxicity, new anticonvulsants, neuroprotection, etc, and may well offer an opportunity to perform pre-mammalian assays in vivo.
